Metaphor, Metonym and Analogy

Metaphors, Metonym and analogy are used through out Stories, Advertising, Moving image ect...

Metaphors ... A metaphor are an analogy between two objects or ideas, conveyed by the use of a word instead of another.

Examples used in advertising/Graphics...

I think these to Aids awareness posters are very successful in portraying their meaning!
They have used two different creators that are normally associated with fear this instantly connotes the feelings we feel towards catching the disease or even carrying it. The adverts also fairly deserve making them instantly memorable and very, very affective of stressing their importance.

Story Telling

'Storytelling is the conveying of events in words, images, and sounds often by improvisation or embellishment. Stories or narratives have been shared in every culture as a means of entertainment, education, cultural preservation, and in order to instil moral values. Crucial elements of stories and storytelling include plot, characters, and narrative point of view.'

Romeo and Juliet (Shakespeare)
Baz Luhrmann adaptation
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ll2Ik2EPvLA
This film is a modern take on Shakespear’s Romeo and Juliet; however it still retains the original Shakespearean dialogue. Even though this makes it more difficult for us to understand the story has been told to us through generations in such a successful way we understand the concept and contents of the story.
To be a great story teller I think you need to...
Captivate your audience by making the story interesting and full of action
The way in which you deliver your story...make sure everyone understands the basic elements
Be descriptive to make sure your audience can visualise the story as you want them to see it.

So in order to make my treatment successful i need to carefully consider all of these elements...

Story Telling...Treatments...

This was the first time I have tried to write a treatment, I thought it went fairly well however when we shared to the group it seemed more like a Character description. It was very hard for me to get into the style of writing I needed to use.
I have had a look at how I need to write a successful detailed treatment that contains everything a director and script writer would need to know about the film or animation.

http://www.writingtreatments.com/HALLOWEEN.pdf

This treatment is fairly long and the one i was attempting to write didn't need this kind of length however I thought it was good to get a proper insight on how a proper treatment is written.

The different between this one and mine is...
Mine didn't include the action...I spent to long on my descriptions
Although the Halloween H20 treatment does contain details and descriptions it explains what’s going on and what happens throughout the film
A treatment also needs to continually flow ... action after action without slowing down at all!

Protagonist and Antagonist...

I have been looking into what best connotes a protagonist and antagonist...i have recently found that the story follows the protagonist which is most likely to be the hero or stereotypically a character the audience are on the same side which makes the antagonist the 'bad guy' or someone who gets in the way creating problems for the protagonist to resolve.

Examples are....Batman (protagonist) and the Joker (antagonist)

Harry Potter (protagonist) and Lord Voldemort (antagonist)

Chindogu - Vertical and Lateral Thinking

'Vertical thinking is a type of approach to problems that usually involves one being selective, analytical, and sequential. It could be said that it is the opposite of lateral thinking'
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vertical_thinking

'Lateral thinking is a term coined by Edward de Bono, for the solution of problems through an indirect and creative approach. Lateral thinking is about reasoning that is not immediately obvious and about ideas that may not be obtainable by using only traditional step-by-step logic.'
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lateral_thinking

Before we could start the Chindogu project we had to come up with lots of different ideas for our product, good or bad. We had to start using lateral thinking...which means coming up with as many solutions for a problem to then figure out what one will work the best, rather than sticking to one idea from the very beginning. The problem I think we came across as a group when creating our Chindogu was the fact we stuck with pretty much one idea rather than exploring multiple ideas and thoughts. I think my group and myself did this because we were too wrapped up in creating good ideas rather than just coming up with any ideas that possibly wouldn't work. The Chindogu project has lead me to become more of a lateral thinker instantly having a huge impact on my current project giving myself more options and freedom within my work.
