Horror Channel - more info

Specialised programming includes cult, Hollywood, Comedy, B-Movie classics, modern thrillers, series, home-produced specials, biographies and documentaries. Since takeover they’ve revamped the daytime schedule to include more series and introduced some slightly better known films and directors to prime whilst retaining the cult look and feel of the channel. The channel doesn't start until 12 miday and continues through till 4:30am and it shows programmes and films such as ... Stephen Kings the Dead Zone, Monster Island and the Caretaker.

Example of a film that they show : The ChupaCabras:Dark Seas

The film was released in 2005 but i think it looks older since they are still using

Animal Planet - More info

I have been looking into what programmes they broadcast and what kind of target audience the channel has, as far as i can see and from what i have seen they focus on documentaries regaurding of course animals. Shows include ... Cats 101 and Dogs 101 which is a programme that gives you an insite into information about a certain breed and how to take care of them. The Haunted which is about animals and 'their haunted owners'. Weird True and Freaky (strange real life stories about different animals, reptiles ect..). The programmes are all true and range from fatual to human encounters and stories. The target audience is yes someone interested in animals but also interested in the human interaction. The age range of the audience will vary depending on the type of programme they are broadcasting anything from 12+.

Example of Dogs 101 programme:

History Channel - Ident (Current)

Watch History Channel Ident
This is fairly simple by only using text however again this is 3D animation. This could be nice to add to. I'm not too sure if i like the logo!

Sky Arts - Latest Ident

This ident largely different to the older idents in 2007 ... these are much more complex and create a short narrative this backs up the point i made earlier when i said the majority of the newer idents use 3D animation.

Sky Arts Ident (2007)

Watch Sky Arts Ident
This style was about in 2007 ... its extremely simple black background is complemented by the colours with looks like a representation of paint dribbles to connote art.

Horror Channel Idents (Current presentation 2010)

Watch graveyard ident. Use stereotypical horror codes like the red colour wash over the top and the over grown graveyard. (Red is also part of the logo) Also the idents make the viewer feel involved giving that personal enigma ... the camera work connotes the viewers eyes ... you are the one running through the graveyard it adds that extra creepiness.

Animal Planet - Ident

I have found an amazing website that gives me stills and videos from loads of idents!!! Its called The Ident Gallery.
I think this is gorgeous it uses the new type to walk amongst the animals ... they have a series of them using dogs, meerkats, monkeys and sharks. (The type adapts the movement of animals)

3D Animation?

I have been looking at different idents for different channels and i have noticed that a lot of them use 3D animation whether for the whole of the animation or even just a small section! I want to push myself with this brief and therefore i would like to incorporate some kind of 3D animation within the ident.

Animal Planet - Logo/Ident

http://animal.discovery.com/videos/taking-on-tyson-videos/ <--- at the start of this video the animal planet logo appears in yellow/black/white. These programmes hasn't been aired yet so this is their newest of logos/idents. They are simple and only incorporate type so i could play around with a number of possibilities of adding image or simple just playing with the typography.

Animal Planet

On February 3, 2008, Animal Planet "relaunched" itself under a new image that "sheds its soft and furry side for programming and an image with more bite."
As part of the relaunch, Animal Planet replaced their elephant and spinning globe logo for a starker text image that allows more flexibility in its usage.

Disney Ident Montage

This is a short montage of different types of idents used for a multiple of things on one channel.

Channel Ident

Types of Ident ... general channel ident, up next, whats on today or tomorrow, over the next month ect .....

I found a list of the sky programmes and these are the ones i am most interested in:
-Horror Channel
-History
-Animal Planet
-Discovery (history/science/turbo)
-Disney
-Sky Arts
-Food Network
-Dave
-Sky movies comedy

Camera Shot?

Instead of using the whole window throughout the whole animation i thought it might be interesting to use close ups to make it more pleasing to watch so i cropped the image i already had to see what it may look like.

Group Crit

Group Crit - Tuesday 15/02/2011

At the group crit i showed my 'cheater' test and i got some positive feedback however the majority said that it was too photoshopped ... the lines were too pixelated and if i was going to carry on with this idea the i should do it properly and draw on to the image by hand. Some one suggested animating it using a light box and another said maybe do what i have been doing in photoshop but it Flash and it will create a less pixelated effect. Orina also said that because the lines are moving it would look good if the clouds were also moving. So i need to set up a camera and take a number of images to animate over.

| Test | CHEATER

I did many test of trying to draw on the window but because of the lighting it wasn't very clear so i took a photo and decided to draw on it digitally. But i feel like i am cheating myself as i wanted it all to be real!

| Test | Drawing on the Window

I started then to draw where i had placed the tape but the outcome was poor ... the line was not clear and nothing how i expected it to look like. I then figured out i was drawing in the most detailed area of the window so i need to test on the lighter area.

| Test | Marking out the buildings

After a couple of attempts of trying to follow the outlines on the buildings free hand i decided to quickly mark them out with masking tape. So me and luke spent about half an hour marking them ... Luke watched the screen of the camera and directed me on where to put the tape ... THANK YOU LUKE (i couldn't of done it by myself).

The grim adventures of Billy and Mandy

I noticed this uses a similar style to Mr Magoo...

United Productions of America

United productions of America

United Productions of America, better known as UPA, was an American animation studio of the 1940s through present day, beginning with industrial films and World War II training films. In the late 1940s, UPA produced theatrical shorts for Columbia Pictures, most notably the Mr. Magoo series.

| Test | Post it note

I was in the middle of testing and i noticed there were decorators going up and down the building on scaffolding ... i thought it would be interesting to try and incorporate it within my animation. I like the way the men move as the ball rolls over the top of them. However the quality of the animation is quite shocking so i need to consider the amount of movement i create and style of post it.

| Test | Post it note being building

This was a quick test to show the post it (sonic) going behind the obstacle ... i think this works quite well as it adds a bit more interest to the animation rather than just going over the horizon.

Tuesday 8 February 2011

| Test | Window (Drain Pipe)

Another test using the drain pipes rather than the horizon line ... i think this is a bit more interesting but the whole thing needs to be faster.

| Test | window (Better quality)

Another quick test ... the start is slightly out of focus but i managed to sort it out before the post it bounces ... i think this is ok but i need to be a bit more creative. By this i mean use the backdrop in a more interesting way rather than just running the post it over the horizon. Maybe make him run behind objects, slide down drain pipes, use different heights and camera angles.

| Test | Window

This was a quick test to see what the post it note would look like against the window ... I think this is fairly successful ... there are some glitches in this as i kept banging into the tripod as i was moving about and also i put the flash on by accident at one point but i like the overall effect.

| Test | Jump

This is a quick test to try and figure out how to make the square post it into a circle to represent sonic when he jumps into the air.

Work space ...

This is just a quick snap shot of where i have filmed my tests ... although its my bedroom the plain backdrop has been useful to act as a green screen and make the post it not stand out properly.

Ideas

After looking through some of the tests and ideas i decided i want to stick with the post it note on window idea. I want to make sonic feel part of the real world rather that all digital where it normally lives...I want to shoot everything as i see it and not fake/imitate it.

Friday 4 February 2011

| Test | Blur (faster)

Just the same as previous post but the timing is quicker to suit the speed of sonic.

| Test | Blur

This is just a rough test to see if i could make it look as if sonic was racing through the image ... this is just a quick thought ... i thought i was onto something but i want to stick with the post it idea since it almost brings sonic to the real world rather than everything being digital!

Thursday 3 February 2011

| Test | Colour

I used the footage in the previous test but changed the colours in photoshop to see what it would look like ... but i have made it look unrealistic and i want to stick with reality.

| Test | Post it note

This is just a quick test of a post it note going from left - right (like sonic) on a white wall. Very simplistic and just what i imagined...just need to find a more interesting background to animate the post its on top of.

Nike Advert

I think this advert for nike is great i like the way the animation in the foreground is against a window so you can see whats going on in the background. I think this makes it more appealing and interesting to watch.
