View Points

Over the first few lessons of Design Skills we have been looking and researching into different view points and there intended meaning and how we, the audience/viewer perceive them. I looked at a variety of view points used within different mediums such as photography, film, fine art and graphic design.

I began by looking through different books within the college library that covered film, photography and fine art to give me a starting point to explore the different view points and what they portray and how a different medium conveys a different message from another.

After looking trough books i then decided to browse the internet, YouTube and Google video to look at view points used within moving image particularly film. I found the most dramatic and noticeable view points were used within the horror genre which lead me to look at films such as: A Clockwork Orange, Halloween, Carrie ect...

A Clockwork Orange(1971), Stanley Kubrick

(Car Scene)

The reason I thought this clip was particularly interesting is because it involves many view points, Stanley Kubrick uses a variety of view points in a short clip to portray multiple meanings.

Extreme close ups-Kubrick decided to use 4 extreme closes up on each one of the 'droogs' (gang members) to show each of there emotions separately, a range of emotions such as excitement as they cause destruction along their travels tells us they are proud of their wrong doing giving the audience a reality check of the 'droogs' disturbed personalities.
Wide shots (almost over the shoulder shots)-These are to show the destruction the characters are causing before the use of the extreme close ups to connect the emotions with the careless disasters they are causing ahead of them. But by using the over shoulder shot of the characters sat within the car engages the audience in a sense of joining them, being physically part of their madness.
