I have been looking into what best connotes a protagonist and antagonist...i have recently found that the story follows the protagonist which is most likely to be the hero or stereotypically a character the audience are on the same side which makes the antagonist the 'bad guy' or someone who gets in the way creating problems for the protagonist to resolve.
Examples are....Batman (protagonist) and the Joker (antagonist)
Harry Potter (protagonist) and Lord Voldemort (antagonist)
